The gold fish mouth termed as sexy! My goodness...!
How sexy can it be?? Fish looking lips. I think in my opinion actresses and actors in those days were far better looking than the ones now. Girls like Angie Chiu in The Bund was absolutely breathtaking. I remember one of my male colleagues said that he would marry her even though she had already been married before and had 2 kids. Then there was Susanna Au Yeung Pui San and of course dear departed Barbara Yung. They seem to have a kind of beauty that is not sexy like nowadays. Their beauty seems so pure and innocent, fresh and sweet which is almost impossibloe to find in nowadays actresses.Peachesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-7818771210454688352011-05-04T00:12:50.696-07:002011-05-04T00:12:50.696-07:00@Peaches: Yup, that was Cora Miao -- the name of ...@Peaches: Yup, that was Cora Miao -- the name of the series was 狂潮 (coincidentally called "The Hotel"). That was actually her most famous series...

She was a Miss HK (go figure) and can be considered one of the 'fa dans' of the 70s. She left the TV industry to pursue movies in the 80s (and won a few film awards in the process). She retired from the industry in 1991 after she married and currently lives in the U.S.llwy12https://www.blogger.com/profile/02401832364832078932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-540143697762203042011-05-03T01:25:34.995-07:002011-05-03T01:25:34.995-07:00Can I ask whether this Cora Miu was the girl who p...Can I ask whether this Cora Miu was the girl who played a rich girl in the old series about a hotel. Chow Yun Fat was in it and also Deborah Lai, Sek Kin and Lee Heung Kam. It was a very long series and I think Susanna Kwan sang that theme song. I vaguely remember Chow Yun Fat had a sort of affair with Deborah and she was also doing the same with Sek Kin. I can't remember the name of the series but it was just 2 words. If this Cora is the girl I am thinking of, her Chinese name is "Miu Heen Yan". Do you know what happened to her? She was really pretty and I think she left TVB around the early 1980s.Peachesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-14842851499234625962011-03-27T23:20:02.034-07:002011-03-27T23:20:02.034-07:00@llwy12 - True about how the media vs. celebs and ...@llwy12 - True about how the media vs. celebs and how fans would take it. I meant I wouldn't want to judge those other ones AND they do have the right to live the way they want, BUT what I'm referring to are those like how the artists themselves OR their management try to gain attention by creating those 'scenes' on purpose. You know either for promo events of upcoming events or dramas - whether it would create the effects or not. 'Cause I know few of the younger generation do keep themselves hidden real good or at least keep a good image. It's a bunch of super popular ones nowadays who are like acting like that. Those really overshadow the few kind ones and it is overlooked hence we think all the younger generation are like that. It's almost the same as how fans behave at times with how aggressive, overboard ones stand out more.

SORRY, way off-topic! LOL! But you get the idea.

Regarding CYF, no probs since it's not relevant. But always grateful for this post.DTLCThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02412002838777406732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-4437584796665945492011-03-27T21:25:54.498-07:002011-03-27T21:25:54.498-07:00@DTLCT:
Thanks! And no, I don't think you...@DTLCT:

Thanks! And no, I don't think you're exaggerating -- there are very few people in this world who dislike CYF (though I'm sure there are haters out there who are just jealous of his success) but in general, it's very rare for artists and ordinary citizens alike to NOT like him.

I totally agree with you regarding the whole down to earth thing -- I personally feel that it's really up to the artists. When some people's idols have negative news in the press, their fans usually try to make them out to be victims of the Media, but my personal take has always been that it depends alot on the how the artist is like in real life. Like those who are photographed partying and going to clubs, then are classified by the media as party-goers, clubhoppers, etc. -- that's because they choose that kind of lifestyle...those artists like CYF, Jacky, Tony, etc. who don't choose those types of lifestyles for themselves will naturally not have those kinds of rumors or negative news....so yes, at the end of the day, it does boil down to RESPECT...if the artists can't even respect themselves, then how do they expect others to respect them? They should really learn a lesson from CYF and how he has been able to garner the respect of millions for so many decades!

Yup, I've heard various things regarding the Idy relationship as well -- that's why I'm glad there are books like this where I can get the "real" story from the artists themselves or those who were close to them.

LOL! Nah...I realized later after I re-read the post a few times that it's actually a pretty quick read, so even though it felt long when I wrote it, it's actually not too bad.

I would love to do a part 2, but unfortunately, the book doesn't talk about CYF's film career...the focus was really on his personal life and relationships mostly. But one thing I will say is that there were tons of pictures in the book along with captions as well as the year in which the particular picture / event in the picture occurred -- some of the stuff mentioned in the captions weren't detailed in the book itself, but also revealed alot about the artists. Some of the pictures in CYF's section did talk a little about his films, but not a whole lot.llwy12https://www.blogger.com/profile/02401832364832078932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-55661132570949208242011-03-27T02:58:05.790-07:002011-03-27T02:58:05.790-07:00Hey, another great post! (I'm exaggerating here since I now there are senseless haters out there...*roll eyes*)

Anyway, that's what I always like that he's so down-to-earth and NOT stuck-up, etc. It's amazing he managed to keep it and he could maintain a normal life without getting mobbed by fans. I guess that's the whole difference about respect and keeping it real. It's not impossible to do today with maintaining a normal life without fear of stalkers YET I think some celebs just make it that hard. (I mean, those are possible, but since CYF managed to keep it in control, why can't others do it?)

I'm so glad that you mentioned regarding him and Idy since I also read/heard about the 'suicide' thing AND I'm like seriously? I never really believed it since it seemed impossible that he would do that though I don't know him personally and wouldn't know what led to it. But glad you cleared that one up for me. I'm sure there are people out there who were confused regarding the whole thing too.

Last comment: Am I the only crazy one who doesn't think this is long? LOL! Part 2 talks about films, right? JUST KIDDING....LOL! So greedy, huh?DTLCThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02412002838777406732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-74049257458960699732011-03-19T23:57:24.746-07:002011-03-19T23:57:24.746-07:00@The Archival Queen: Thanks for the comments!
Ye...@The Archival Queen: Thanks for the comments!

Yes, I definitely agree -- Fat Gor continues to be charming even now...in fact, the older he gets, the more handsome he looks (to me at least!). I remember when he attended one of the awards shows here in the U.S. (can't remember whether it was the Oscars or Asian Excellence Awards) where he came out in a tuxedo and with one hand in his pocket -- he looked so suave and handsome! And I would be absolutely star-struck as well if I ever met him! :0)

Definitely, the acting classes in the past were more 'prestigious' -- it was harder for people to get into the class (hundreds would apply and only a few dozen would get accepted), plus they had to go through an interview process, several tests, a final project, etc. etc. Nowadays, everything is 'fast-tracked' and the point seems to be to get through everything as quickly as possible...

It's interesting that you mention the singing competitions, because that is exactly the case with those as well -- the focus is on being 'politically correct' and not hurting contestants' feelings, so even if their singing sucks, the judges say they are good so as not to discourage them (for examples of this, feel free to read my "The Voice" posts -- I rant about this issue alot).

Anyway, back to Fat Gor...well, there was actually more to the whole Fat Gor / Idy thing that I didn't mention (because of time issues)...it's actually really interesting how that relationship ended because it was definitely not as simple as most people thought.

Yea, I didn't know about Idy being in "The Radio Tycoon" either -- I wonder who she was originally slated to play? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Angie's role, since based on the why the section was written, it sounded like Angie was slated to be in it from the beginning...

Definitely...the section about how Fat Gor and Jasmine lose their baby was difficult to get through -- partly because he is someone I care about and it just breaks my heart to see such good people go through so much pain.

Lastly, thanks for the compliments on the post! I also agree about Fat Gor being an "icon" -- I've always used that word very selectively and there are very few people I would apply that title to!llwy12https://www.blogger.com/profile/02401832364832078932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5765116522593136045.post-14691170095475517302011-03-19T12:48:15.271-07:002011-03-19T12:48:15.271-07:00I've always thought of Fat Gor as a dashingly ...I've always thought of Fat Gor as a dashingly handsome and funny man, despite his age. I still find him rather charismatic and charming too :D And it's great how he's so down-to-Earth, but I still think that I would be starstruck if I ever met him somewhere in the little streets of HK, mainly because of his tall height and my someone smallish stature.

And thank goodness for King Sir, otherwise TVB would've lost a star - one of their greatest stars, in my opinion. The acting classes then definitely sounded a lot more serious than they are now. And we're talking about how Chow Yun-Fat almost didn't make it in here. Which means that so many current and forthcoming TVB acting school graduates should never have even made it past the interview stage. The same thing is actually happening with singing competitions, now that I think about it.

It's also interesting that you mention that Idy was originally cast in 'The Radio Tycoon'. Now, that was something I did not know. I guess this whole thing about strong-minded Idy and Fat Gor's filial piety towards his mother though was something of an unnatural clash in their relationship.

I feel awfully sorry for Fat Gor and his wife, Jasmine for losing their baby girl that way. But I guess this is something that they just couldn't control.

On a happier note though, I praise you for this excellent post recounting the memories of one of HK's pop icons. Chow Yun-Fat is certainly one of those few, talented people that I find deserving of the title of 'idol'.The Archival Queenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06131408357764015903noreply@blogger.com
